Snowfall Christmas Night by *IUBgrad:iconIUBgrad:

Snowfall
Christmas night:
"like a most
improbable dream..."
Long absent
my vista,
its capacity
to silently
enchant
rose in
effortless renaissance,
embracing landscapes
in soft movements
of dancing whispers.
In morning sun
melted away
to memory,
its seeds
yet take root
to haunt
consciousness:
prophesying
ineffable realities
that wait
just beyond,
eager to alter
perspectives
with mischievous
sincerity.

This is the only poem I attempted to start during my visit to my parents' in Indiana over Christmas break which seemed to have any real potential to evolve into a "finished product." This was inspired by actual snow that fell late on the evening of Dec. 25th; it had rained all day, but that changed to snow just after about 10pm. My parents had gone to bed and I stayed up looking out the window for quite some time.

This also includes a quote from one of my favorite Christmas films, _The_Nightmare_Before_Christmas_, which just seemed to fit.

I especially like the last four lines.

Thanks, Rykki! That wasn't my original ending for the poem, but what I'd come up with earlier just didn't seem to fit. I'm much more pleased with how it came out.

The death of one child is a tragedy, the death of thousands is a statistic.

Tonight time has no hold on us. Tonight we are immortal.

My hopes are so high I think your kiss might just kill me
Beautifully written as always. My favorite lines (I love them all) are

"effortless renaissance,
embracing landscapes
in soft movements
of dancing whispers."

Bravo!

Thanks; I'm glad you liked it (and thanks for the fave and comment on "Wisdom's Eccentric Children" as well!)
